Supercharged V8 Range Rover Velar coming to South Africa
Land Rover South Africa just announced that the Range Rover Velar will now be available with the option of a fire-breathing 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine. The highly anticipated high-performance variant of the Velar has been released just in time to compete with the newest Porsche Macan.
The new model is called the Range Rover Velar SVAutobiography Dynamic Edition, with the latter badge borrowed straight from the big body Range Rover. This leaves just enough room to speculate that an even crazier Velar is on the way that will wear the SVR badge.
That’s a crazy thought to process considering that the SVAutobiography is equipped with 405kW of power and will accelerate from 0-100km/h in 4.5-seconds before reaching its top speed of 274km/h. There are also other ‘go-fast’ features like the eight-speed Quickshift transmission, Electronic Active Differential, Adaptive Damper tune, anti-roll-bars and Dynamic Stability Control. This new Velar is impressive (on paper at least).
Michael van der Sande, head of Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations said: “The challenge here was to increase performance without compromising the composure, capability and refinement inherent in the Range Rover Velar. We’ve done this and, in the process, created an SUV that strikes a brilliant balance between go-anywhere practicality, dynamic performance and relaxing comfort – it truly is an SUV for any occasion.”
The interior of the Range Rover Velar SVAutobiography Dynamic Edition features some exclusive new seats that are heated, cooled and adjustable in 20 ways. There’s a sporty steering wheel, a massive 12.3-inch infotainment display and premium materials all over the cabin. If that’s too relaxed, there’s also an optional carbon fibre pack that adds a sportier aura inside.
The exterior receives larger intakes, a new grille, 21- and 22-inch wheel options and some exclusive badges. A quad-pipe exhaust system and a black roof complete the SVAutobiography.
The sporty Velar will start from R1,714,000 and will be available in South Africa in the second half of 2019. You’ll have to act fast if you want one, because it will only be available for one year.
