Facelifted Audi TT RS may be end of road for coupe

The reveal of the updated Audi TT RS is a bittersweet event after hearing that the newest model may be the end of the road for the coupe, with Audi planning to redirect the resources used on the TT RS towards developing electric vehicles and SUV’s.

In fact, there are already rumours within Audi that the TT will be reincarnated as a coupe-styled sedan under the A3 model line, putting it more in line with the Mercedes CLA-class and the upcoming BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe.

Doom and gloom aside, the facelifted Audi TT RS coupe will most likely be welcome with open arms, especially now that it’s been brought in line with the latest Audi RS3. There are subtle changes around the coupe that keep the familiar face of the current Audi TT while adding a refreshing modern touch.

The updated Audi TT RS, expected to carry the model over the next 3 years, features a more aggressive front bumper, a sportier diffuser, a new aero-wing and some air vents on the bumper at the back, while the interior receives an upgraded communication and infotainment system as well as new colour cabin accents on the cupholders, air-conditioner vents and behind the seats.

Performance modifications are also quite relaxed with the same 5-cylinder 2.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine from its predecessor being found at the heart of the coupe. Power output is now up to 295kW and is kept company by 480Nm of torque.

Acceleration from 0-100km/h will happen in a rapid 3.7-seconds once the power is processed by the 7-speed dual clutch S-Tronic gearbox and fed to all four wheels via Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive system. The featherweight coupe, weighing in at 1450kg’s, will continue all the way to its electronically limited top speed of 250km/h, or 280km/h if you tick the right options.
