Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Roadster stuns the World from Geneva

Lamborghini seemingly broke the internet this week after the unveiling of the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Roadster as well as its baby-brother, the Huracan Evo Spyder, at the Geneva Motor Show.

In a world where most manufacturers are giving in to the trend of downsizing, it’s a breath of fresh air to see a car as futuristic as the Aventador SVJ flaunting a massive V12 at the back. The Roadster takes it to another level, with Lamborghini guaranteeing that it will perform on par with its hard-top sibling, with the only difference being the availability of the open air.

The roadster features a detachable carbon fibre roof that pops off with a set of quick-release levers, complete with its own storage compartment under the front bonnet. The good news is that the mechanism weighs just 50-kilograms, bringing the total weight of the Roadster to 1575-kilograms. You’d think that the screaming V12 would be loud enough in a roadster, but Lamborghini have gone a step further by adding an electronically operated rear window that is designed to amplify the sound of the engine when open.

Power is supplied by a mountain-moving 6.5-litre V12, with 566kW of power and 720Nm of torque on tap, driving all four wheels. The SVJ roadster and coupe share a top speed of 349km/h, however the roadster is a tenth of second slower from 0-100km/h, with the sprint happening in 2.9-seconds. Lamborghini also claims that performance and stiffness of the roadster remains unaffected whether the roof is on or off.

Speaking of performance, the roadster inherits the latest edition of Lamborghini’s ALA active-aero system that automatically adjusts the flaps on the carbon fibre rear wing to produce just the right amount of downforce when necessary. Factoring in the side air intakes and fins around the car, both assisting with drag reduction and cooling, the result is an improvement of more than 40% in downforce compared to the Aventador SV roadster.

The Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Roadster will only be available in 800 examples worldwide, making it a relatively exclusive piece of machinery.
