Porsche Cayenne Coupe in South Africa

Porsche Cayenne Coupe has sights set on German rivals

Porsche is the latest manufacturer to join the coupe-SUV race after the confirmation of the new Porsche Cayenne Coupe. Prototypes of the coupe have been seen with very little camouflage leading us to expect a reveal later this month.

Styling of the coupe is on par with its key competitors, like the BMW X6 and the Mercedes-Benz GLE coupe, with slimmer windows, a new liftback-style tailgate and new tail lights to give it a more elegant profile. There are also subtle tweaks to the front and rear bumper from the third-generation Cayenne SUV to give it a refreshed look while maintaining familiarity with the popular model.

The interior of the Cayenne Coupe should be identical to the full-bodied Cayenne, with premium leather and materials covering much of the cabin. More details of the interior will be available after launch.

The feature that will get most petrolheads excited is the new electronic retractable rear spoiler. The wing raises in and out depending on the situation and speed. However, the wing on the Porsche Cayenne Coupe is a solid wing and not a split wing as seen on the new Panamera.

Porsche is aiming to give the Cayenne Coupe a sportier identity over its conventional SUV sibling and impressive performance is necessary to uphold such a reputation. Therefore, Porsche has selected two engine choices for the Coupe at launch – a twin-turbocharged 2.9-litre petrol V6, capable of 328kW, and a hardcore 4.0-litre petrol V8, capable of 410kW.

Sources close to Porsche have marked first deliveries of the Porsche Cayenne Coupe to take place in the last quarter of 2019, with production of the model having been given the green light by Porsche bosses back in June last year. Production will take place at the Porsche factory in Leipzig, Germany where the full-bodied Porsche Cayenne is currently produced.
