Ferrari FF & Lamborghini Aventador Supercars Snapped Up

Posted on 12 March 2011 by SACarFan

That didn’t take long, but then it never does. Ferrari and Lamborghini have confirmed that their brand-new models, announced only in the past month, are all bought up for the first year’s worth of production.

The unique Ferrari FF, a shooting brake-like supercar that introduces all-wheel-drive to the Italian company’s bag of tricks, is powered by an equally new 6.3-litre V12 engine producing 485 kW and 683 Nm of torque. Without a load in its cavernous rear, the FF will hit 100 km/h from standstill in 3.7 seconds. “With the FF, we open a new book in Ferrari’s history,” Ferrari boss Luca di Montezemolo told reporters at Geneva. “This is something we have never done before.” Its styling has already proved polarising among the pundits, but with buyers clamouring to get their orders in, it seems Ferrari cannot put a foot wrong. We can likely thank the sure-footedness of all-wheel-drive for that. Watch the official Ferrari FF promo video here.

Lamborghini’s Aventador LP 700-4 enters the market with a more traditional supercar design, if you can call any of the Sant’Agata manufacturer’s designs ‘traditional’. Not to be outdone by Ferrari, the Lamborghini also has a new engine between the axles, with 525 kW and 690 Nm of torque coming from a brand-new V12. Along with the ultra-lightweight carbon fibre tub and body, the new engine pushes the Aventador from 0 – 100 km/h in a neck snapping 2.9 seconds. Learn more about the new Lamborghini Aventador here.

If the supercar battle was ever off, it is most assuredly back on.

Full Details Of The Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4

Posted on 01 March 2011 by Scott Hayes

Lamborghini has released full details of its new benchmark supercar, the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4. The car will make an official debut at the Geneva Motor Show later this evening.

As previously mentioned, the new Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 features an all new 6.5-litre V12 engine outputting 515 kW of power and 690 Nm of torque. Lamborghini says the LP700-4 will manage the 0-100km/h sprint in just 2.9 seconds. The engine will also provide a top speed of 350 km/h thanks to a new Independent Shifting Rod 7-speed dual-synchronise transmission.

The car features an all-new carbon fibre monocoque tub that makes up the central aspect of the chassis. Attached to this tub is a system of high-strength aluminium tubing which makes up the suspension fundamentals. The rear suspension also comprises of an all-new pushrod setup, using horizontal struts similar to a formula-class open-wheel race car. Almost all of the car has been engineered with one main goal; to be as lightweight as possible. Since the majority of the chassis is made from extremely light carbon fibre composite and the suspension components are made from aluminium, it has allowed the entire vehicle to weigh just 1 575 kg.

As per previous model Lamborghinis, the ’4? in the model name means it is all-wheel drive. Lamborghini has fitted a Haldex eletronic four-wheel drive system to the new Aventador which is capable of providing ultimate traction to each wheel. It also adjusts power distribution for optimum performance along the way. Additionally, the Aventador is also fitted with an electronic stability program (ESP) that sends power to the wheels with the most traction, accordingly. The rear differential is a self-locking type while the front differential is controlled via the ESP system.

Of course, the main attraction to the new Aventador is the all-new body styling. It features very sharp angles with a pointy front nose, mimicking the Lamborghini Reventon. The rear of the car presents a ‘cut-off’ design, complimented by huge heat-extraction vents below both tail lights. An aspect we haven’t seen in full detail is the interior. The Aventador interior showcases modern convenience matched with aggressive styling. There’s a centre LCD touch screen interface which provides occupants with controls to almost all of the in-car comfort and entertainment systems.

The Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 price has been announced for international markets. The Lamborghini Aventador will be available from EUR255 000, with deliveries expected to begin midway through the year. South African pricing and availability is yet to be finalised.

Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 Photo Leak

Posted on 25 February 2011 by Scott Hayes

Pictures of the new Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 seem to be surfacing in rather quick succession. The most recent image reveals the Italian supercar’s profile that brings to mind both the Murcielago and the edgier-shaped Reventon. If you’re wondering how the rest of the car looks, you’ll have to wait until its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show on March 1. However, given the way things are going, we wouldn’t be surprised if we got an early unveil within the next couple of days.

In the meantime, you can begin building an image in your mind with the gallery we’ve complied below.

Volkswagen Headed To Geneva With Plenty Of Concept Cars

Posted on 08 February 2011 by Scott Hayes

With the Geneva Motor Show just around the corner, Volkswagen is apparently preparing to debut seven brand-new concept cars from various Volkswagen Group subsidiaries, including Audi, SEAT, Skoda and Volkswagen, as well as, of course, the highly-anticipated Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4.

Volkswagen is determined to overtake Toyota as the king of the automotive world by 2018 and has reportedly prepared a more than a few show-stoppers for Geneva to help them nudge towards that goal. These cars hope to prove Volkswagen is thinking ahead, and promise to provide a glimpse of what to expect from the company in the future. Volkswagen Group design boss, Walter de’ Silva, recently spoke with Automotive News Europe, saying the company would unveil concepts from SEAT, Skoda, and Volkswagen, as well as one or two from Audi. The design boss also said the recently acquired Italdesign Giugiaro company (bought by Volkwagen Group last year) will also have two concepts on display representing Volkswagen Group.

The exact concept car line-up hasn’t been announced, but expect something based on the new Volkswagen Beetle, the ultra-efficient Volkswagen XL1 concept, as well as an evolution of the Volkswagen BlueSport roadster or similar compact sports car.
