The X-Bow will be available to South African consumers in the middle of August and will be imported and distributed by X-Bow SA, a separate entity from the local KTM Motorcycle distributor in South Africa.
X-Bow SA will offer the X-Bow as a fully homologated, right-hand drive, road legal package ready to take on any mountain pass, track day or race track. Initial plans are to offer the X-Bow At Street and Clubsport models – the main difference being the adjustable suspension – but plans for importing different models are in the pipeline.
The KTM X-Bow has a remarkable power-to-weight ratio, thanks to the car’s light weight and the 177 kW Audi 2.0 TFSI engine. Weighing in at around 790 kilograms, it accelerates from a standing start to 100 km/h in only 3.9 seconds.
But the X-BOW isn’t just a racing machine, it’s also oriented towards sporty drivers who seek a purist driving experience on the road. By virtue of its stripped out, driving focused character, the X-Bow promises to offer an uncompromised driving experience. Adding to the thrill of the drive is the exposed double wishbone suspension front and rear, along with other mechanical components. The X-Bow has no roof, doors or windscreen and the only concession is a 70 mm high, transparent wind deflector. Driving the KTM X-Bow is sure to blow one’s pulse racing.
Some of the X-Bow’ highlights include a composite carbon fibre monocoque, identical to those that have become standard in Formula 1, which weighs just 90 kilograms. The steering wheel is also removable and houses all the cars controls, from indicators to lap timer. Data is transferred between the steering wheel and steering column by infra-red and power is sent to the steering wheel via electromagnets – the entire steering wheel system has been patented by KTM.
Pricing will be confirmed closer to the X-Bow’s launch in August, but don’t expect change out of R1 million.
