With the new Maserati Quattroporte having been revealed just last week, Maserati are now expected to release the Ghibli at the 2013 Geneva or Shanghai Motor Show.
The report comes from US industry paper Automotive News and follows confirmation from Maserati of the new car’s production, however, a debut was only expected in 2014.
At this stage speculation suggests the Ghibli will measure around 5 meters in length, which is 97 mm shorter than the outgoing Quattroporte and just over 100 mm longer than the current BMW 5-Series. The Ghibli is likely to ride on a version of the chassis that underpins the Chrysler 300. Likewise, power could come from a version of Chrysler’s 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 with 295 kW, but if we follow Maserati’s history, a Ferrari-derived engine is more likely.
The new Ghibli will fit into the Maserati line-up below the new Quattroporte and the Lavante SUV. It will form part of Maserati’s plans to produce 50 000 vehicles by 2015, which is a big task, considering that number currently sits at around 7 000.
